House of the Dragon Producer doesn’t understand why fans love Satan

Daemon Targaryen, one of the main characters of HBO Dragon House, is an objectively terrible person. He has proven himself time and time again to be a ruthless killer, a despicable manipulator, a relentless liar, and a perpetual aggressor. Satan is a totally bad guy and the show isn’t trying to excuse him for that. Despite everything we’ve seen Daemon do, he may have become the most beloved character on the show. Satan is the friend of the Internet, and Dragon House Producer Sarah Hess can’t wrap her head around it.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hiss was asked about the love and affection for Daemon that spread across social media platforms like wildfire. While actor Matt Smith’s performance certainly plays a role in that, Hess has a hard time seeing how Daemon’s actions helped him become the object of online affection.

“He became the Internet’s friend in a way that baffles me,” Hess said. ‘It’s not that Matt isn’t incredibly attractive and cool, and he’s incredible in this role. But Damon himself… I don’t want him to be my boyfriend! I’m a little baffled how they all are, ‘Oh, Dad!’ And I’m just like, “Really?” How – in what way – was he a good partner, father, or brother to anyone? I’ve got a. It’s not Paul Rudd. “

In the same interview, Dragon House Director Claire Kellner said she was not surprised by the love he showed Damon. Although she admitted, he is a terrible family member.

“I love the fact that people are so involved with these characters, and I think that’s part of the fun with that,” she said. “One minute you love someone, and the next minute you love someone else. But I’m not surprised. Matt is very risky in his performance and he’s got that little smile, you know… You can’t help him! He’s charismatic. People love a villain. But I don’t think he’s a good father or a good brother.”

What’s next for Daemon?

Hess went on to say that Daemon will face some new and different challenges in the upcoming first season, as well as in season two.

“We’ll see a different side of it,” Hess said. Now, we are writing the second season and finding out what is the nature of his relationship with Rhaenyra? There are many explanations [in George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood] till then.”

Dragon HouseThe Season 1 finale arrives Sunday night, broadcasting simultaneously on HBO and HBO Max.
